The AAP is currently seeking a dynamic Medical Director to enhance the program’s track record of excellence and national leadership in comprehensive medical andpsychosocial care for HIV+ youth. The position requires the ability to set clinical standards for client services and to provide on site medical management of clients undergoing treatment for HIV infection. The ideal candidate will be equally skilled at administrative oversight of clinic operations, medical care for HIV+ youth and integration of research into clinical care. Candidate must have a strong balance of skills including HIV treatment, budgets, grants, multidisciplinary staff leadership. Must be able to effectively communicate with: providers, community organizations, diverse youth/family populations.
Responsibilities:
- Direct all medical and psychosocial clinic staff and services
- Lead program participation in NIH/CDC and other research protocols
- Participate in programatic grant writing and reporting
- Supervise the program’s efforts to train health professionals
- Oversee expansion of community-based services and outreach
Qualifications:
- MD degree and active NYS medical license
- Training and experience in Pediatrics, Internal Medicine or Family Practice
- Advanced training in Infectious Disease or Adolescent Medicine a plus
- Eligible for academic appointment
- Experience in provider/community development and leadership
The Adolescent AIDS Program (AAP) at Montefiore Medical Center was founded in 1987 as the first program in the nation to provide comprehensive services to HIV-positive youth, and currently serves one of the largest cohorts of these youth.
The mission of the AAP is to provide care for 13-24 year olds living with HIV. The AAP addresses its mission via three program components: 1) providing comprehensive health care for HIV+ youth and HIV counseling and testing to at-risk youth; 2) offering relevant clinical and behavioral research; and 3) engaging in community networking/outreach and training of healthcare providers.
The AAP provides services for all youth, especially those most at risk for HIV: economically disadvantaged youth, youth of color, young women and gay, lesbian, transgender or bisexual youth.
The AAP clinic is staffed by a dynamic, interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurse practitioner, research nurses, and social workers. Clinic staff collaborate to provide comprehensive, coordinated services and participate in training to healthcare providers about this special population of youth.
