Community Outreach
In 1997, the AAP launched a social marketing campaign called "HIV. Live with it. Get tested!" to raise awareness about the issue of HIV among youth and to encourage sexually active young people to learn their HIV status. Since then, this campaign has been the centerpiece of the AAP’s outreach efforts.

The AAP participates in other youth outreach initiatives through partnerships with youth and HIV programs throughout the Bronx and the City of New York. Our work aims to prevent HIV infection among youth and to identify and link to care those youth who have already been infected with the virus.

HIV Counseling & Testing
The AAP provides out-posted counseling and testing at sites located throughout communities in the Bronx. We schedule testing events through appropriate community based organizations that care for adolescents between the ages of 13-21.
For more information, contact Pat Harriet-Jackson in the AAP Outreach Department. Call 718-882-0232, ext. 228 or pjackson@AdolescentAIDS.org. To find out where we plan to hold testing events, visit the Events Calendar.

HIV Education
The AAP provides on & offsite training activities to increase awareness of adolescent HIV infection and improve provider capacity for HIV risk assessment, risk reduction, HIV counseling and HIV care for adolescents.

Community Involvement and Networking
The outreach staff at the AAP actively participate in various HIV care networks and consortiums related to youth and the Bronx. In addition, the AAP works with other health care programs, family planning centers, substance use programs and community based organizations (within Montefiore Medical Center, the Bronx and New York City) to ensure appropriate awareness and referrals regarding teens infected with HIV.

Get Tested! Week
The AAP’s outreach efforts culminate each year in a "Get tested!" Week. Now an annual event, Get Tested! Week mobilizes youth and health care providers to increase HIV testing among young people at-risk for HIV infection. This year’s Get Tested! Week will take place June 22, 2004. Contact us to find out how you can participate in our next Get Tested! Week.

Contact Lisette Marrero in the APP Outreach Department for these services. Call 718-882-0232, ext. 223 or email her directly.

Peer Education Program
